PRESS RELEASE:Keeping people safe in Newcastle. Vulnerable people in Newcastle are at less risk from fire thanks to a partnership between Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service and social housing provider Leazes Homes. The accommodation, which opened in March 2014, houses 16 one-bedroom flats for people with mental health illnesses. Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service provided additional fire safety advice and support to the residents, who are extremely vulnerable to an increased risk of having a fire, due to their health and personal circumstances. A combined fire protection system has been fitted throughout Leazes Homes' newly built accommodation in Scrogg Road, Walker, Newcastle. 100% pass rates for latest range of CIC courses. Three courses run by County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service's training company have posted 100 per cent pass rates this summer. The service's Community Interest Company (CIC) aims to deliver the highest quality courses and these results speak for themselves. Fire Engine Rally. Locomotion held its annual Fire Engine Rally on Sunday 31st August; a lovely sunny day. The popular event featured a range of classic and vintage fire engines, including a 1978 Land Rover Series 3 Fire Appliance owned by Malcolm Paul from Chester-le-Street. Other vehicles on display included a 1990 ex-Durham County Fire Brigade Dennis DS153 Fire Appliance, and an AEC Merryweather Fire Appliance with a 100ft turntable ladder.
