The free ticketed event, funded by the Chester-le-Street Area Action Partnership (AAP), on Friday 15 August, comes complete with a DJ, rafts and floats, pizza and soft drinks. It is open to youngsters aged eight to 12 who are able to swim 50 metres. Julie Lewcock, centre manager, said: "It is great to be hosting a friendly, fun and free pool party for the summer holidays. I am sure it will be very popular so the advice is to book early. " The party may be split into two sessions. In the run-up to this year's Small Business Day on 6 December, Durham County Council is offering free training to owners and employees of small businesses in the areas to help them reach their potential. The free courses on offer include customer service, business administration and food hygiene training with the council hoping that as many staff as possible can gain a qualification in time for Small Business Day.
